The Republic of Cyprus signs agreement for the construction of the Eastern Mediterranean natural gas pipeline

On the 2nd January 2020 the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu signed in Athens an agreement to construct a 1,900-kilometer (1,181 miles) pipeline to connect the natural gas fields of the Eastern Mediterranean basin with European Markets. The Italian Government is expected to follow suit at a later date.
