Increase of Foreign Direct Investments in Cyprus

Cyprus has been ranked 18 in the Greenfield Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) index of the FDI Intelligence for 2021, which is a 50 places positive jump compared to the year 2020.

The FDI index ranks countries according to the foreign direct investment they attract in proportion to the size of their economy.

On a written statement, Minister of Finance Constantinos Petrides stated that:

“The rise of Cyprus from 68th to 18th place in the Greenfield FDI Performance Index is of great importance since the index records the performance of countries in attracting foreign investment, which is very important for jobs and incomes, especially in the volatile international environment we live in today.

It is worth noting that in the 1st semester of 2022:

– Foreign direct investment increased in Cyprus by 150% compared to pre-pandemic levels (1st semester 2019)

– Investments in software (Software) and information technology (IT) increased by an impressive 600% (compared to 2019) which confirms the success of the “Business Attraction Program” in promoting the country as an emerging technological hub. It confirms that this vision, with the appropriate policies we follow, is rapidly becoming a reality.

It is the same period that our country recorded a growth rate of more than 6%, which is about 30% higher than the EU average.”
