Removal of Bahamas, Belize, Seychelles, and Turks and Caicos from the EU List of Non-Cooperative Jurisdictions for Tax Purposes
On February 20, 2024, the European Council announced the removal of the Bahamas, Belize, Seychelles, and Turks and Caicos Islands from the EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions (the EU Black List) for tax purposes.
Now the EU Blacklist consists of 12 jurisdictions which are; American Samoa, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Fiji, Guam, Palau, Panama, Russia, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, US Virgin Islands, and Vanuatu.
The EU list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes is part of the EU’s external strategy on taxation and aims to contribute to ongoing efforts to promote tax good governance worldwide.
Jurisdictions are assessed based on a set of criteria laid down by the EU Council. These criteria cover tax transparency, fair taxation and implementation of international standards designed to prevent tax base erosion and profit shifting.
The Council updates the list twice a year and the next revision of the list is scheduled for October 2024.
